A servant girl can say this: “I have washed the pots, lit the fire in the oven, and made the beds.” She confidently expects the appearing of Christ because she has done these works in Christ, and they are certainly [pleasing to Him]. So it is with a son who is obedient to his father. If he is sent to do his lessons, he does them and thinks: “This is my father’s command, and it is pleasing to God.” It is unavoidable that Satan will attack you if you obey your brother or love your husband. But he wants the very opposite. Thus the doctrine of God is adorned by our life, but not in the sense that we are justified by this. It is a great thing that He is willing to grant eternal life for the washing of pots. No, but He does give it to those who have lived in this way. “Fear not, little flock” (Luke 12:32). The passion and death of Christ are to be magnified; they have infinite [worth] because we believe in this blood. Therefore, believing and living this way as an example for others, we confidently await through Christ.
