Here once again we find our Lord Jesus Christ, first in a veiled manner as Cyprian found Him. Noah planted a vineyard; Jesus built the spiritual vineyard of the land of the Jews. Noah became drunk and fell asleep naked; the Lord Jesus died and hung on the cross naked. Noah was scoffed at by Ham; likewise, our Lord Jesus was mocked by many wicked men. Noah was honored by Shem and Japheth; likewise, the Lord Jesus was honored by Joseph, Simon, Nicodemus, John, etc. Noah’s scoffer was cursed; those who despise our Lord Jesus will perish forever. By contrast, those who honored Noah received his blessing; likewise, those who in true faith honor Jesus Christ receive eternal life. O dearest Lord Jesus Christ, help me not to resent Your nakedness and humble appearance on the cross, nor to join the unbelieving Jews and heathens in slandering You, but, approaching Your cross with blindfolded reason, to seek my highest pleasure in You, and so receive the eternal blessing. Amen.
