The Fruit of the Lord’s Supper

The Lord be with you

On Maundy Thursday, 1523, Martin Luther preached a message on the Lord’s Supper. As I’m sure is true for most Lutheran pastors, I’ve preached my fair share of sermons about this Sacrament. Reading this one from Luther was a humbling experience for me. Especially the second half of his message, where he speaks about the fruit of the Sacrament, I have only lightly touched on over the years. If I have given the impression that the fruit of the Sacrament of the Altar is ONLY forgiveness of sins, I hereby apologize, ask for forgiveness, and urge you to read this sermon given by Luther. Give special attention to the wheat, grape and cake analogies.
